Head of payments – Bank of Kigali

Reporting to- Chief Commercial Officer

Key Accountabilities

This Head of Payments is responsible for innovation and development of new and review of existing digital and electronic payments ecosystems to drive Bank of Kigali vision of digital transformation.

Though it is a strategic and technical role, it is one that requires the candidate to demonstrate the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders and service providers, understand the organization’s business requirements to satisfy customers’ expectations in alignment with the Bank’s strategy in this new era of digitization.

Main responsibilities but not limited to

  • Develop and implement a digital banking payments strategy and policy that supports the achievement of the bank’s business strategy that will enhance achievement of a competitive advantage in the market.
  • Assist managers in formulating and executing innovative digital payments product aiming to achieve the business target and improve customer experience.
  • Develop and implement banking seamless payments ecosystems across all digital and electronic channels.
  • Drive the development of digital projects, develop detailed project development plan, track and monitor project progress, ensure effective implementation of new services/ products / initiatives and perform post implementation review after launch.
  • Provide post implementation support on the digital payments platform to ensure services are delivered in line with expectations.
  • Set strategies to reduce system instability and achieve optimum system availability.
  • Standardization and Automation of manual processes in the department.
  • Enhance accountability and support decision making in managed units.
  • Provide 2nd level support to digital business, digital operations and Technical team.
  • Work with Risk and Compliance in ensuring compliance to PCI-DSS standards, and other local and other international standards, rules and regulations are in place.
  • Develop plans on development of new and review of existing digital channels in line with the banks key priority areas to enable customer to transact efficiently.
  • Contribute in innovation with the digital as key arm of the bank to enhance customer experience on digital platforms in collaboration with other relevant stakeholder departments.
  • Create budgets and resource management plans to ensure the digital plans have efficient resource for execution.
  • Coordinate and supervise the maintenance of the existing digital systems i.e. Agency, POS, ATMs, Cards issuing, Card production, e-Commerce, etc …to ensure quality service is always provided to customers.
  • Drive the cross and up selling of all digital payments products to customers to ensure productivity and performance.
  • Monitor and evaluate the functioning digital channels to ensure gaps are identified and attended to in a timely manner for minimal disruption to the quality of service provided to customers.
  • Oversee back office efficiency to ensure the transaction activities reflected on card management systems corresponds with that reflected in the core banking systems plus settlements and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance to Card scheme (Visa, MasterCard’s, American Express, etc…) issuing Mandates and avoid any noncompliance penalties on both acquiring and issuing.
  • Provide periodic performance reports on all payments’ channels for submission to the regulator and to management.
  • Oversee documentation process regarding all digital operations to facilitate security of information and availability for future reference.
  • Ensure compliance with BNR regulations and policies are adhered to with regards to Payments cards business.
  • Overall management of all technical, Business and operational aspects in the department
  • Vendor management and contract negotiations
  • Set up service delivery TATs with other partners in terms of payments processing.
  • Managing technical resources and deliverables on all payments’ projects under your scope.

Professional, academic qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, computer engineering, information systems or any other relevant degree;
  • Relevant master’s degree from a recognized institution is added advantage;
  • Relevant professional qualifications in IT;
  • A minimum of six (6) years’ experience in IT at an organization of similar complexity, have undergone digitization transformation and minimum two (2) years of which must be at a senior management level.
