Job opportunities ( 15 Positions) – Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF)

Background

The Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF) is a nationwide platform whose purpose is to change the current perception among the youths vis-à-vis the agriculture sector in Rwanda, while orienting them to seize investment opportunities through awareness creation, skills development, and advocacy support services. The idea is to create a critical mass of change agents to influence transformation of agricultural business landscape with courage, determination and positive attitude.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

The RYAF (through young graduates) under an MoU with Sustainable Agricultural Intensification and Food Security Project (SAIP) will be responsible for providing technical know-how and support in the increase of agriculture productivity specifically in horticulture crops, market access, and food security within SHG and Cooperatives supported by SAIP Project and also to improve nutrition.

RYAF will support the Water Users Associations in ensuring proper operation and maintenance as well as cost recovery through full collection of water fees among users of the irrigation schemes that were developed under LWH-RSSP Projects.

The project is being implemented in 8 Districts namely: Gatsibo, Rwamagana and Kayonza in the Eastern Province, Karongi, Rutsiro and Nyabihu in the Western Province, Nyanza in the Southern Province and Rulindo in Northern Province.

It is with this background that RYAF wish to recruit highly motivated young individual that will collaborates with the leaders of SHGs, Cooperatives and Water Users Associations to rapidly improve technical and managerial aspects, increase of productivity, access to market and ensuring proper operations and maintenance of infrastructure. Below is the list of positions under recruitment:

1. Cooperatives officers (5)

1.1. Duties and Responsibilities of Cooperatives officer includes but not limited to:

 Support the cooperative to get all required books and fill in properly

 Support cooperatives in complying with by-laws (procedures, internal rules and regulations);

 Support to speed up the payment of cooperative membership fees

 Coaching and mentoring at least two cooperative members as cooperative support assistants

 Mobilization of cooperative members to get inputs through Smart Nkunganire system

 To ensure and monitor the implementation of ToTs training sessions in line, to sustain
cooperative’s organization

 In collaboration with the cooperatives management committee, prepare the annual work
plan, budget and reports;

1.2. SELECTION CRITERIA

To qualify for this offer, these will be the key requirements:

1. Diploma A2 in any of these fields: Accounting, Agriculture.
2. Not more than 30 years old
3. Experience and demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
4. Strong verbal and written, listening and communication skills.
5. Demonstrated attention to detail.
6. Languages Skills in Kinyarwanda, English or French, knowledge of all is an advantage
7. Training experience or work experience in cooperative Management is required
8. Being a resident in that District will be an added advantage(KAYONZA, NYABIHU, KARONGI)

2. Horticulturalist (2)

2.1. Duties and responsibilities of Horticulturalist includes but not limited to:

 Mobilize and organize farmers into groups for horticulture production

 Support farmers to plan and produce the selected horticulture crops based on the market demand and analysis (locally, regional and export market)

 Facilitate access to inputs (seeds, fertilizers and pesticides)

 Attend farmers seasonal meeting to facilitate them to get information about available market to grow for localized market

 Support & assist farmer organizations/ Actors in agribusiness roadmap preparation based on the market analysis

 Coaching farmers/ actors in record keeping of their produce

 Coaching and supporting farmer groups & actors in standardizing their produce to meet food safety at domestic, regional and international market

 Strengthening and linking to markets youth & women entrepreneurs or groups that invested in agriculture value chains;

 Coaching all activities of post-harvest, handling and storage in order to minimize losses to the farmer’/s production;

 Ensure farmers are actively participating in operation and maintenance of the postharvest facilities including dryers, warehouses, pack houses, cold rooms…and their respective equipment and tools

2.2. SELECTION CRITERIA

To qualify for this offer, these will be the key requirements:

1. Bachelor Degree in any of these fields: Crop production and Horticulture.
2. Not more than 30 years old
3. Having at-least one year working experience in agricultural field
4. Experience and demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and openness to learning.
5. Strong verbal and written, listening and communication skills.
6. Languages Skills in Kinyarwanda, English or French, knowledge of all is an advantage
7. Demonstrated attention to detail.
8. Management and analytical skills
9. Being a resident in that District will be an added advantage(RULINDO, GATSIBO)

3. Water Users Association (WUA) Technician (1)

3.1. Duties and responsibilities of WUA Technician includes but not limited to:

 Support and follow up seasonal water sharing schedule and revision according to urgency

 Support WUA in the preparation and implementation of the Annual Work plan and Budget.

 Support WUA in preparation of seasonal maintenance plans and cleaning schedule.

 Provide support to WUA in preparation of staff remuneration.

 Follow up water fee payment and usage per season

 Follow up operation and maintenance activities on a weekly and monthly basis

3.2. SELECTION CRITERIA

To qualify for this offer, these will be the key requirements:

1. Diploma A2 in any of these fields: Agronomy science, plumbing or any of related Field
2. Not more than 30 years old
3. Experience and demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and
openness to learning and working with new technology.
4. Strong verbal and written, listening and communication skills.
5. Languages Skills in Kinyarwanda, English or French, knowledge of all is an advantage
6. Demonstrated attention to detail.
7. Being a resident in that District will be an added advantage (RULINDO)

4. Nutrition Facilitator (7)

4.1. Duties and responsibilities of Nutrition Facilitator includes but not limited to:

 Support in the identification of nutrition intervention beneficiaries

 Support and follow-up of the distribution of vegetable seeds, establishment of household and model kitchen gardens and bio-fortified seeds

 Support in the coordination of nutrition awareness campaigns

 Coordinate and follow up on cooking demonstrations in village kitchens in the project areas

 Support the coordination and organization of capacity building of community health workers

 Work closely with health centers in the project areas to follow-up and support children with malnutrition cases

 Support and follow-up of the poultry farming and mushroom production

 Ensure the availability of records and reports of all nutrition related interventions

4.2. SELECTION CRITERIA
